DAP claims MCA’s Facebook ‘doctored’

The majority of people who are linked to the MCA fan page either have many accounts or are not tech-savvy, claims DAP.
The DAP claims that the MCA Facebook has been doctored. The party claims that MCA is using cyber troopers to increase the hits on its site. This accusation comes from DAP’s Taman Segambut branch chairman, Patrick Hoo, who claimed that the MCA Facebook page’s “likes” are disproportionate to the number of people who are “talking about it” on Facebook.
“They [MCA] have 31,230 likes but only 493 people are talking about it on Facebook,” he said.
“This means that either the majority of the people who liked the page are not tech-savvy or multiple duplicate accounts have been used to add likes to this page so it would look like they have a lot of support,” he added
Comparing to the DAP Facebook page which has 267,809 likes and 57,639 people talking about it, Hoo said,”Our numbers look more believable as we have a high number of likes and a proportionate number of people talking about us.”
The branch secretary, Yew Jia Haur said, “MCA’s percentage when comparing the number of likes with the number of people talking about them is only 1.63. But DAP has 18.52 percentage. It is clear that most of the accounts used to like their page were duplicates or people who are not tech-savvy,” he added.
Yew also said MCA Youth made a statement yesterday extracted from the China Press that the Pakatan Rakyat cybertroopers are attacking Barisan Nasional supporters who make comments on Facebook. “We have not hired people to do this. They are not linked to us in any way. They are just people who are Pakatan supporters opposing BN. It is not right to blame us without proper grounds,” he said.
“We also assume that their fan page likes will increase dramatically during the campaigning period,” he added.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who was also present at the press conference, said MCA had previously admitted that it had 1.1 million party members on its offical website. “This is highly doubtful, as of this morning MCA’s page only had 31,230 likes. The party is clearly exaggerating the figures,” said Lim.
“They [MCA] claim to have almost 282,000 male MCA Youth members. If they really had that much support, they wouldn’t need to over-exaggerate,” he added.

Court rules in MPKj’s favour

IN a first-of-a-kind verdict, the Kajang Municipal Council won a court case against a developer, thus setting a precedent for future cases. At a press conference at Menara MPKj, Eric Tan and Lim Lip Eng, the counsels representing the council, said this was the first time a council had sued a developer and won.
The council sued the developer for failing to build a retaining wall.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled in favour of the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) on March 14 in a suit brought against the developer of Taman Desa Karunmas in Balakong. Judge Datuk John Louis O’Hara ordered a mandatory injunction for the defendants (developer) to take immediate action to stabilise the slope at lot 6504 and lot 1758 and build two retaining walls, Nehemiah Reinforced Soil Wall and Bored Pile Wall, along the slope.
Tan said that until the wall was built, the slope was the developer’s responsibility, not the council’s.
“No time frame has been imposed on the developer to build the wall but it must be built within a reasonable period of time.
Also present were Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching, Senator S.T. Chandramohan, MPKj councillors Lee Kee Hiong and Eddie Ng.
Teo said the issue had been going on for almost 13 years. “In 2001, the project was completed and CF issued but a landslide occurred in 2002.” Teo urged the developer to start work as soon as possible. “If they fail to do so, I will urge the state government to blacklist them.”
Lee said that at the council’s infrastructure meeting, she had suggested that the state government should freeze projects undertaken by the developer.

Taman Sri Bintang residents applaud new road link

Residents of Taman Sri Bintang, Kepong can finally sigh in relief as a long-awaited short-link road connecting the area to Segambut Jaya will finally be built.
Taman Sri Bintang resident Angus Ng, 52, said the 200m-link was expected to ease traffic congestion in the area. “The residents have been tolerating the congestion in the area for so many years. We have been asking the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to resolve the problem but were told the land belongs to a private owner. Currently, the roads in our neighbourhood are being used by motorists from Kepong to get to Segambut and by motorists from LDP headed to Desa Parkcity.
“Also, there are two schools in the area, SMK Sinar Bintang and SRJK (C) Kepong 3. A new institution is also coming up here. This contributes to the congestion in our neighbourhood, especially during peak hours. After waiting for almost 15 years for this link to be built, we are so relieved it has been approved. I hope it will help disperse traffic,” said Ng who has been living in the area for the past 13 years.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said the link road was a privately funded project and that works would start at the end of this month. It is expected to be completed in three months. “The road will benefit 5,000 households in the 10 neighbourhoods,” he said.
Residents said the land was currently being used by a private company for a storage depot.
A check by StarMetro found the store being cleared to make way for the road project.
Once completed, the extension will link Jalan Seri Bintang with Jalan 30/38a.

An influx of foreigners in Persiaran Prima Pelangi in Segambut, is causing fear among residents there

Residents of Bukit Prima Pelangi are unhappy that the foreigners have started doing business in front of the entrance leading to their housing scheme. They also claim that the foreigners had set up their stalls on a road reserve and monsoon drain reserve. The foreigners are operating a food stall, mobile reload shop, barber shop and other businesses.
Segambut Dalam resident Samsudin Aribin, 45, said about 80 per cent of the illegal stalls in the Segambut area have been monopolised by foreigners. "There are many illegal stalls here. Some of the stalls are operated by foreigners who have licences from the Companies Commission of Malaysia, but they do not own the licence. They are using other people's licences to do business," he said. Samsudin also claimed that residents are afraid to go to the Kampung Segambut Bahagia pasar malam.
"The pasar malam is filled with foreigners on Sunday. Some of the residents are afraid to come to the pasar malam after 6.30pm because of the large number of foreigners. They don't feel safe with all the foreigners around," he said.
Samsudin also claimed that there have been fights, illegal gambling and other social ills caused by the foreigners. He also claimed that last year a motorcycle was set on fire by the foreigners during a fight. "The residents here are fearful of the foreigners. We hope all the relevant authorities will look into this issue," he said.
Another resident Chua Chew Huat, 58, said that City Hall should take the matter seriously. "We don't want the situation of foreigners here to escalate. If City Hall does not put a stop to it, then the stalls will start mushrooming," he said.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said the residents have complained about the illegal stalls to City Hall, which confirmed that the stalls were illegal. Lim said that City Hall had sent its officers to the area on Jan 24 to check on the illegal stalls after receiving a complaint letter from him on Jan 9.
"The officers confirmed that there were six stalls, but only two were in operation during their visit. City Hall said it would issue a notice to the foreigners to vacate the area. We hope that City Hall will act immediately on the matter," said Lim.
