3-headed Brute

KL city was originally governed by KL City Hall (DBKL) and, Federal Territory Ministry was re-established in 2004 by PM Badawi which has jurisdiction in KL. A case of duplicity? Not yet.

Since yesterday, Pemudah, the special task force set up to facilitate business, has “adopted” DBKL with immediate effect. Yes, now we have a triplicity.

KL city mayor, Dato’ Hakim b. Borhan, dumbfounded agrees to the visionary offer. Does he have a choice?

Reason given by Pemudah to get in the way of DBKL daily business is to “to make it more customer-friendly and improve its delivery services”. Meaning since its inception in 1972, DBKL has been customer-unfriendly and poor in its services?

Not only now KL tax payers have a 3-headed brute to breed, they may have to listen to 3 different calls of tune.

This tripartite is a sheer wasteful and ridiculous excess. To make KL a better city, all that we need is a capable CEO to run the city. If the current one is of no good, sack him immediately and hire a qualified one.

60% Gerakan want out from BN

Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said his party will not pull out from Barisan Nasional for the time being despite 60% of party members wish to leave BN based on sentiments.

Democracy is where majority counts. Freedom of expression based on sentiments is also part of democracy. 60% is majority but it seems like Tsu Koon still doesn’t get it. Tsu Koon and his gangs at the helm have learned nothing from 8 March lesson where not only that they lost Penang, the state they were in control for decades to DAP, the entire Gerakan was wiped out from the pearl of the orient.

Why are Tsu Koon and the handful top leaders of Gerakan so afraid of leaving BN?
Don’t they remember their party started with no office and later captured Penang as opposition?

I can think of two possible reasons:
1. They have got everything to lose if they leave BN.
2. Aftermath repercussions against them by you know who.

Report lodged against Teresa Kok for insulting egg

It was reported today that Seputeh Umno Youth division has lodged a police report against YB Teresa for insulting egg (http://www.sun2surf.com/article.cfm?id=26013).

How could Brickfields police station accept their report? Which investigating police officer has been assigned to the case? Perhaps they would engage the service of an egg-vendor. Or maybe Seputeh Umno Youth division just wants to teach one's grandmother to suck eggs.

Under our Penal Code, it is not an offence to make such nonsensical complaint to the police, no matter how absurd the complaint is.

This is the second world-class joke by Umno after 8 March general election, the first is when Sinchew Daily lady journalist was detained under ISA for 18 hours on the ground that the government worried about her safety.

Call for ISA to be repealed

The Sun (Sept 21, 2008): 18 DAP members shaved their head bald to protest the detention of Malaysia-today.com webmaster Raja Petra Kamarudin and all other ISA detainees.

"We want the ISA repealed and all ISA detainees freed," said Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng who led the gathering of about 100 members.

Also present was Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San. The protesters, aged between 11 and 61, including women, gathered at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly hall at 10.30am and took turns to lose their their "crowning glory".

Describing the 18 participants as "defenders of justice", DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said 10 years ago a similar vow was carried out at the same venue when his son and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was jailed under the Sedition Act.

"We are here to demonstrate and object the use of ISA and to demand the release of ISA detainees especially the country's No. 1 cyber warrior Raja Petra." he said in his speech.

Lip Eng said he has sent a letter to Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Syed Albar to adhere to the a statement made by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) urging the government to review the ISA.

Referring to a news report dated Sept 16, he said Suhakam had found the ISA as an outdated law and it's use was a breach of human rights.

"We urge the Home Minister to take heed of Suhakam's findings as on April 24, 1999, it was he who had announced that the government was ready to form the commission. Hence, Suhakam is his baby and he should pay attention to what they have to say," he said.

Among those present at the event was Seputeh MP Teresa Kok who was released on Friday a week after being held under the ISA, Raja Petra's wife Marina Lee Abdullah, Kelana Jaya MP Low Gwo Burne and several other DAP MP's.

Permintaan Mematuhi Gesaan Daripada Suhakam

21 September 2008

Y.B. Dato' Seri Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar
Menteri Dalam Negeri,
Blok D 2, Parcel D,
Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan,
62546 Putrajaya.

Yang Berhormat Dato' Seri,

Permintaan Mematuhi Gesaan Daripada Suhakam

Sekian, terima kasih.

Ikhlas,

Lim Lip Eng
Ahli Parlimen Segambut

President,

Police Reports Lodged Against Police Reports

Today, I joined my comrades from PAS and PKR Segambut in lodging 3 separate police reports at IPD Sentul against the police reports lodged by The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) and the Islamic NGOs, Heritage Associations, Malay Cultural Organisations and Related Bodies Cooperation Network (Pewaris) yesterday where they alleged that MP Seputeh, YB Teresa Kok who is now under ISA arrest, had tried to prohibit the azan call at mosques and suraus in Kota Damansara, Sri Serdang and Puchong Jaya. (http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/9/15/nation/2029680&sec=nation)

Teresa Kok had on 10 September 2008 already publicly denied her involvement in the allegation and yet, PPIM and Pewaris still raised the azan issue in their police report yesterday despite many similar police reports either against or for Teresa Kok have been lodged by various parties.

Hence the sole intention of our police reports today is to ask for police investigation into the police reports of PPIM and Pewaris whether they have breached the law under Sections 191, 193 and 298A(1) of the Penal Code i.e. they have given false statement and attempted to prejudice, or is likely to prejudice, the maintenance of harmony or unity among the society.

We have also asked for written reply from the police in this matter.

MP: Road repairs will worsen traffic jams

New Straits Times
Tuesday, 09 September 2008
Halim Said

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng (fourth from right) officially launching his service centre with colleagues and friends.

KUALA LUMPUR: Many other roads will have to be temporarily closed just to fix one damaged road.
Works to rectify the cracked Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) will soon be underway, but Kepong MP Tan Seng Giaw is concerned that too many roads are being closed to facilitate the project, which would adversely affect motorists.

Tang was speaking at the launch of Batu MP Lim Lip Eng's DAP service centre in Taman City off Jalan Kuching.

Among those present were Low Gwo Burne (Kelana Jaya MP), Gobind Singh Deo (Puchong MP), Teresa Kok (Seputeh MP), Nurul Izzah Anwar (Lembah Pantai MP), Tan Kok Wai (Cheras MP), Lau Weng San (Kampung Tunku assemblyman), Ronnie Liu (Pandamaran assemblyman), and Hannah Yeoh (Subang Jaya assemblyman).

Lim said he could only launch his centre five months after winning the general election due to his hectic schedule.

"I have been operating my service centre since May and have been flooded with complaints, which are mostly on City Hall issues.

"However, I need to remind the people that they should forward their grouses on City Hall to the council first, rather than coming directly to me," he said.

He said his office also receives complaints that are beyond his scope.

"For example, I received a complaint from a wife whose husband left her following an argument.

The wife then came to my office and pleaded with me to look for her husband.

"Another complainant was a condominium resident who wanted me to 'take action' on a road in front of his unit which he claimed is haunted," said Lim.

Lim said he has reserved a two-hour time slot every Wednesday, between 8pm and 10pm, for the public to meet him.

To contact Lim, call his service centre at 03-6252 0234 or dapsegambut@gmail.com.

Am I a PADI (Pendatang Asing Dengan Izin)?

We have reached a point that racism is like a trump-card for some politicians that has been played over and over again when they are at the bottom of their political lives.

21st-century racism in Malaysia is different from that of the past. Contemporary racism is conscious, and it is expressed in direct, unsubtle ways. This is best evident by Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail who still has refused to apologise over his recent racist remark calling the Chinese community “immigrants who do not deserve equal rights”. Another latest example is the racist indoctrination course by Biro Tata Negara for JPA scholars as reported in media today.

Also, I’m always questioning the need in having Bumi or Non-bumi columns for applicants to tick in almost all application forms at government agencies.

I think that the issue is twofold. I believe that Chinese's perception of Malays is still generally defensive based on their limited interaction with Malays, whether this is via the media or in person. On the other hand, Malays need to respect the truth that our country is built by the joint effort of many communities, and we are living together next to each other since time in memoria. One must remember, respect is a mutual thing.

I am a firm believer that the concept of 'race' is flawed. Our differences as human beings are what make this world exciting and interesting. If we were all of the same culture, how boring would that be?

Let us hope that Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as the head of UMNO can really walk his talk in his 51st National Day message that “solidarity among the united citizens is the cornerstone of the country’s social harmony…” to prevent racism from being institutionalise. For instance, he must immediately sack Ahmad Ismail from UMNO.

Sole Indian representative in the Public Hearing Committee

The Indian representation in the Public hearing committee on the KL City 2020 Draft Plan is very disappointing.

Even after highlighting the disappearance of over 120 Hindu Temples and 2 crematorium all over Kuala Lumpur in the said KL Draft Plan the DBKL has failed miserably to appoint adequate Indian representatives to hear the grouses faced by the Indian Community.

As the special assistant to the Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng I have received numerous call citing utmost dissatisfaction on the appointment of the sole Indian representative Nithi Nesadurai. Numerous people have gone personally to the MP’s service centre to convey their disappointment.

I must question the rationale on how a single person could handle the entire KL woes albeit missing temple and crematorium and that the Indian Community views this as a serious matter. Such actions of not appointing sufficient representative for the Indians almost are liken to marginalising and belittling them which is not justifiable. City mayor as the relevant body responsible for the appointment of the committee members should be realistic as the other two races are well and highly represented.

I demand from DBKL that at least two more Indian of professional status be appointed to handle the grouses of the questionable KL Draft Plan.

Thank You.

Inaugural Merdeka Sports and Family Day @ TTDI Long House

The Residents’ Association of Bukit Kiara (Long House) at Taman Tun Dr Ismail organised its inaugural Merdeka Sports and Family Day on Aug 31.

The Merdeka Sports and Family Day, held for the first time in the Long House’s 26 years history, started at 7:30am and ended at midnight. It was organised to promote unity, fitness and to build patriotic fervour among residents in the neighbourhood.

The event was a success as it saw a huge turnout of almost all the residents from the Long House, ranging from age of five to the adults. Residents from all ages pitted their skills in various sports activities. Entry is free to the participants.

Residents’ Association chairman cum organising chairman V. Sunderam said this event, which coincided with the National Day celebration, hopefully will be continued every year and to be even much bigger.

I am proud to be invited to present awards to the winners. I hope the organiser will continue the good work in the future because the event is a good platform to have a good time with the neighbours and to foster patriotism.

V. Sunderam also said the organising committee will need the support of sponsors in all forms to make the event an annual success.

Though government has not allocated fund to all parliamentarians, I were happy to sponsor RM2,000 to the organising committee, especially with the objective to unite people from all races.

Kuala Lumpur city hall also lends a big hand by providing tents and sound system.
