Call for ISA to be repealed

The Sun (Sept 21, 2008): 18 DAP members shaved their head bald to protest the detention of Malaysia-today.com webmaster Raja Petra Kamarudin and all other ISA detainees.

"We want the ISA repealed and all ISA detainees freed," said Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng who led the gathering of about 100 members.

Also present was Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San. The protesters, aged between 11 and 61, including women, gathered at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly hall at 10.30am and took turns to lose their their "crowning glory".

Describing the 18 participants as "defenders of justice", DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said 10 years ago a similar vow was carried out at the same venue when his son and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was jailed under the Sedition Act.

"We are here to demonstrate and object the use of ISA and to demand the release of ISA detainees especially the country's No. 1 cyber warrior Raja Petra." he said in his speech.

Lip Eng said he has sent a letter to Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Syed Albar to adhere to the a statement made by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) urging the government to review the ISA.

Referring to a news report dated Sept 16, he said Suhakam had found the ISA as an outdated law and it's use was a breach of human rights.

"We urge the Home Minister to take heed of Suhakam's findings as on April 24, 1999, it was he who had announced that the government was ready to form the commission. Hence, Suhakam is his baby and he should pay attention to what they have to say," he said.

Among those present at the event was Seputeh MP Teresa Kok who was released on Friday a week after being held under the ISA, Raja Petra's wife Marina Lee Abdullah, Kelana Jaya MP Low Gwo Burne and several other DAP MP's.

My dear MP YB Lim Lip Eng

We all must call for a release of YM Raja Petra immediately. I hope you will not disappoint me by electing you as Segambut MP. If not for Raja Petra, many Malaysian will be misinformed by our main stream newspaper or TV. So I regard that the existence of RPK is a blessing to all human mankind except those devil under the sheep skin which are commonly now found everywhere in BN.

A shocking news today that the insensitive Home Minister has signed the detention order under Section 8 of ISA, which grants the minister detention power for up to two years, but does NOT allow judicial review. It means there is no longer ground to review in court if the detention of RPK is lawful or not. All of us know that the detention is baseless and totally unacceptable.

Please continue to fight for justice and set RPK free. I just cannot accept the fact the way RPK was detained. I can’t help to think that BN did it for the purpose to incite hatred and people uprising!!! So they can use this to squash all their adversaries, is a very dirty tactics.

BN government hopes that people take the street like Thailand, Burma, and Korea etc.

What a joke, Malaysian authority classifies a writer under the same category of an armed bandit. Regard a pen as a gun, words as a bomb and allegation as explosion. These are very ridiculous when compared to using C4 explosive to harmless woman!!! So whose crime is more devilish??

So my dear MP, you please fire these morons when you are in Parliament. Tell DSAI why wait? Why not take over and reserve a place for Syed Hamid in ISA to let him taste his own medicine.

I was once a strong supporter of a party called UMNO, me…dad…and dad before him. Now this was faded away because the party was too long in the government and we have seen too many wrongdoings by the minister. These ministers think that they are above the law. They expect all the rakyat to do what they say but they themselves do not follow what they say. The time is now ripe for a change. Lim Lip Eng, you got to prove your worth now.

For your information for first time I voted for an opposition party (DAP) and not BN. And I regarded that the Barisan Rakyat have a majority support from all walks of life as people were already fed up with the present government. As usual, Pak Lah is still sleeping and do not know what happened around him. This sort of leader that we can do without.
